History – 4 Sinclair St - From MASH to Mix:
Formerly known as Modern Approach to Social Health (MASH), this service started in Upper Hutt in 1976.
The original vision was to offer a befriending service for people with disabilities living in Upper Hutt who were socially isolated.
Modern Approach to Social Health (MASH) became an Incorporated Society in 1995.
Mix – Connecting, Creating, Living Incorporated is the new name resulting from the merger of Lower Hutt’s Take 5 & Te Whare Marama Inc and Upper Hutt’s Modern Approach to Social Health Inc.
The two organisations had both been operating for at least 30 years providing support and services to socially isolated people, often those living with the experience of mental illness.
A decision was made in 2011 to merge the organisations in an effort to offer more varied programmes and activities for people within their local community.
